A wedding gown may look effortless, but underneath it’s carefully engineered.

Hidden elements like corsetry, boning, waist stays, and skirt foundations shape the body, support the bust, and carry the weight of the dress.

When structure is right, the gown feels secure and comfortable all day.

When it’s missing, everything slips.

Spent a small leisurely eternity tracing out every individual corset pattern piece onto rough cut fabric pieces, and all the markings, while carefully keeping track of whether it was an asymmetrical right or left side pattern piece... Now I should hopefully be able to just leisurely cut out all pieces!

The original pattern I modified is called Little Emma and I'm using a herringbone twill coutil, so I suppose I'm calling this one #TheTweeEmmaCorset because I'm very funny.

Washed the coutil I ordered who knows how long ago, I've worked with many coutils before but this one? It feels like if you made cardboard that was miraculously just as rigid when wet, what a bizarrely robust material.
It's unlikely I'll get to the corset making very soon, but at least I now have the materials to do so when the mood strikes me!

Procrastinated getting back to the bodice & sleeve basic block fitting by ordering supplies for a nice little corset. It's possible to get busks and coutil in Finland, but not in the colours and lengths I wanted, so to the Brits it was.
Tried to bung whatever I could think of into the order, as the postage would be silly in any case, and we'll see if I got all the things I needed and not just things an imaginary Sini of the Future might need.

1800s reproduction silk French S seam corset with hand feathering: My own hand-drafted pattern from a V&A museum piece. Spiral steel, silk, and herringbone twill lining. Very proud of this piece. Working on a new pink/brown one that's similar, pics soon. #sewing #corsetry

You don't need me to extensively harp on about corsets (they can be very good actually and were a completely normal part of dress, for all genders, for centuries) but here's a link to a wonderful little video about a plus size corset made for a woman suffering from the weight of her ample bosom... It's just good, respectful, professional and the client's joy and comfort is only eclipsed by how nice the corset looks!

I think it might have to do for now. I did get distracted with the decorative bit and forgot the functional bit (the flossing on the boning channels!) so I'll have to do that later maybe, but... Yes. Definitely a bit wobbly here and there, but looks striking and nice enough!
