Another way Hawaiian performs better than English, because the word for right (as in correct) is pololei. We’ve all experienced a version of this stressful exchange:
Huli hema ma aneʻi?! (Turn left here?!)
ʻĀkau!! (Right!!)
In English the response is ambiguous, but in Hawaiian it’s clear!

(also worth noting: saying that using #correct language is meant to make it understandable, then using formal technicisms that are far from accesssible is… at the very least worth thinking about)

so they’re trying to really hammer the idea down that you need to speak #correct Spanish (which is assumed to be correct because the RAE determines it, don’t worry tho totally not a prescriptivist take)

they first argue that you’re supposed to do this “for reasons that should be obvious”… and that’s it, no further development

then they mention two “less obvious” reasons: one is because you’re supposed to be able to communicate “without interferences”… which, like, yeah that’s the only valid reason for standardization, but whatever

the other one is…….. to avoid being judged because of your accent or language manners

so if you’re being discriminated, the solution is hiding everything away and becoming #normal and #correct
