The river in Rothbury is the highest I've seen it since early spring. These waves are caused by stepping stones that are well submerged.

Rothbury Bridge is only a couple of hundred metres away so the frequent winter periods when they are submerged are not a problem.

Today I took a scenic drive to upper Coquetdale t see the source of the Coquet. It is much smaller here than when it reaches us in Rothbury. As far as I can tell there is no single spring or source, just a number of channels where the water drains from the peat. Some people say Coquet Head is the source, but on the map this is a hilltop, above any water channels or springs.

Wet weather always seems worse when you look out from inside. Today it is raining steadily and it's forecast to carry on until late tonight. I looked out and I was tempted to take the car to the shop, but then I thought "what do I have a waterproof coat for" and walked.

Once I was out it was enjoyable, and I took a walk along the river before going to the shop.

Wild Northumbrian Oak woodland, really tough for me to get around, really easy for wildlife. Lots of wet flushes. muddy areas, only partially grazed. Almost certainly Ancient Woodland, but I can't prove it. The whole farm is being farmed for wildlife, mob grazing, organic, etc. And a 10 minute bus run from our house. Hooray all round.

I was intending to try and learn how to photograph Birch woodland today, but the camera is only showerproof and it was get-drenched weather. Settled for a trip to a local photogenic bridge at Pauperhaugh on the Coquet in Northumberland (UK variety) at dusk.
