On #ThisDayInHistory in 1783, the #ContinentalArmy was disbanded. The #Founders opposed the existence of a standing army from fear of state tyranny, and the country did not have one until 1791, when the tiny Legion of the United States was created. It was renamed #USArmy in 1796.
