Finally mustered up the energy to take a bag full of empties for the #ContainerDepositScheme. My closest location is "over the counter" at a takeaway. Checked the #CDSVic website, it's open.

But I get there and it's not. Luckily there's another over the counter location nearby, which is the website says is open. It's not.

So then I had to walk and am taking a train to a reverse vending machine. Which I have heard is very often at capacity and can't accept more waste on weekends. So, here's hoping!

Victoria's container deposit scheme begins today. Instead of chucking bottles and cans into your wheelie-bin, you can get paid 10 cents a pop — not a lot, but enough of an incentive that people might do the right thing. I imagine it's going to a be a nice earner for schools and charity groups.

You can deposit cans and bottles at collection depots. In my local area, these are mostly servos and supermarkets.
