Mattel Launches Mattel Brick Shop: Expanding Play Into New Dimensions

tbh i've sort of been thinking about all of my wonderful interests and how a fair few of them have a very distinct lack of preserved material, whether it be instruction manuals for K'NEX sets from the 90s or random old website captures that have 90% to 100% of their images, media, layout, etc completely missing, it really makes me think that a lot of the stuff i'm into (mostly obscure toys, old video games, retro computers, etc) are doomed to a life of physical-only existence or an existence consisting of minute scraps of half-archived data, where there's potential for these items to eventually be forgotten about and left to degrade.

it's pretty weird to think that a lot of this stuff is just unavailable in archived digital form, or suffers from partial archival efforts with barely anything useful left. I'd like to contribute myself, but I don't have a personal flatbed document scanner or anything like that.

Thanks to @nisima's suggestion (thanks!) I came across mini waffles by Marioinex and a much larger version called waffle blocks by Little Tikes.

The former comes closest to the #constructionToys I am looking for, but I still don't think it's the exact same one.
Most notable the shape of the centre hole does not match my memory of being in the shape of a plus-sign.

Spent some time trying to find the name of some #constructionToys from the #80s or #90s that I used to play with in my #youth.

I can't quite remember the design of the bricks, so I drew four designs that I could imagine. Not sure if there was a single type of brick, or if there were two different ones that were meant to be used together.

You could lock these together to form various geometric shapes or weird structures. Either by locking the sides together, or by inserting one or two into the middle of another.

I was first reminded of these by seeing 'Plus-Plus' in a #toy shop here in Norway, but those aren't quite the same as the ones I remember growing up in the #Netherlands. #PlusPlus is rectangular, while the ones from my #childhood are square-shaped instead, and had a plus-shaped hole in the middle.

I had sort of forgotten about them again after the last time I looked for their name, but since I dreamt about them last night, I figured I'd #AskTheFediverse this time. :)
