Turns out Christy Marx, creator of Jem and the Holograms and designer of acclaimed Sierra adventure games Conquests of Camelot and Conquests of the Longbow, also wrote the plot outline for an issue of Marvel's 1970s Conan comics credited to Roy Thomas:

Poking around in the Conquests of Camelot game files, I found an alternate palette with what might be a moodier sky design for the edge of the frozen lake at Ot Moor.

The version in-game is more realistic, but less dramatic.
