Since then, it has been estimated that, around the world, more than 4,000 versions of the melody have been produced, along with 300 sets of lyrics. In 2004.

Un turista perdió la vida en la localidad de Tunuyán, provincia de Mendoza (Argentina), después de que un bolo fecal expelido por un cóndor desde gran altura impactara en su cabeza mientras acampaba. El excremento, congelado por las bajas temperaturas a más de 4500 metros, alcanzó una velocidad superior a los 200 km/h, lo que provocó el fatal desenlace. Las autoridades de Parques Nacionales confirmaron el suceso. Los cóndores, aves carroñeras de gran envergadura, pueden ingerir hasta 5 kilos de comida en una sola ingesta y permanecer varias semanas sin alimentarse. Normalmente defecan cerca de sus nidos, pero en ocasiones lo hacen en vuelo, especialmente si presentan problemas digestivos. Un especialista señaló que este tipo de incidentes, aunque poco comunes en zonas de baja densidad poblacional como Mendoza, son más frecuentes de lo que se cree. En Chile, en 2017, se registraron varios casos similares provocados por un mismo ejemplar con problemas gástricos, lo que incluso llevó a la intervención de la Fuerza Aérea. Desde la Secretaría de Turismo de Mendoza han calificado el evento como aislado y han invitado a los visitantes a disfrutar de la provincia sin temor, destacando los riesgos habituales del entorno. Este caso ilustra los peligros poco conocidos de la fauna silvestre en zonas montañosas.
