Special Tg1 - The Secrets of the Conclave - Episode of 05/10/2026
For the first time, cameras enter the heart of the Vatican to tell the most secret and solemn rite of the Catholic Church: the Conclave that led to the election of Pope Leo XIV. An ancient process of 800 years, made of prayer, silence and spiritual discernment. The documentary produced by BBC, in collaboration with Vatican Media and Rai Documentari, offers an unprecedented access to the protagonists and images never seen before. Inside the Sistine Chapel and at Casa Santa Marta, the cardinals live the Conclave between votes, anticipation and community life. Men of faith and conscience called to a choice that marks the history of the Church and of over a billion faithful. Interviews and testimonies tell the relationship with Pope Francis, the anticipation of the new pontiff and the climate of prayer and responsibility that precedes the election, until the moment when “the white smoke” changes everything. Among those interviewed: cardinals Michael Czerny, Vincent Nichols, Luis Antonio Tagle, Blase Cupich, Timothy Radcliffe, Mons. Diego Ravelli and the Mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri.

@Luke The Conclaves were started in 1986 by Rick Glawson and have run every year since, so I guess this is its 40th anniversary year.
There is a five-page profile of Rick in BLAG 07 (https://bl.ag/07), reproduced from Mark Oatis’ 2003 tribute/obituary alongside extra photos from the collection of David Smith.
Pictured is the opening page (right side) with the piece following the profile of Keith Knecht in the magazine's regular 'Meet the Letterheads' column.
Many of my fellow Filipinos hoped that Cardinal Tagle would become the first far eastern and Filipino pope in last year’s #conclave, but a new book claims that he was never a serious contender.
“Tagle, while charismatic and from the Philippines [...] was considered not to be a strong enough administrator, the book says. He also suffered harsh social media attacks which damaged his candidacy. ”

“Conclave” the movie provides a gripping, if fictional, behind-the-scenes look inside the secretive election of a new pope. But last year’s real-life conclave was just as dramatic, with plenty of plot twists, political battles among cardinals and a surprise outcome.
