A lot of people seem to either not realize or forget that what got a lot of people deeply interested into computer technology is because they were hacking their own computers.

They were hacking their computers because they wanted to make it do something it wasn't intended to do–make their computer bend to their will and make it do what they want it to do–take control over their computer, rather than their computer controlling them.

Outlaw the ability for people to hack away on their own computers, and you neglect the wizards who want to hack their computer because they wanted to change some aspect to it that benefits their usage, even if it hurts no one else.
