At this virtual meeting, we'll discuss legislation to press the pause button on data centers, fully assess their risks, and institute regulations to protect our communities, health, and environment from the runaway damage this industry is already inflicting.

Rural Iowa legislators are making appropriations decisions right now that could affect the information available to Iowans about agricultural water pollution. Cities need this data to keep our drinking water safe. Cancer researchers need environmental data to understand Iowa's high cancer rates, and farmers need data to know if conservation efforts are producing results.
Legislators need to hear from constituents in their districts. **Help us make calls to rural Iowa residents to drive calls to the legislators who have the power fund sensors in rivers across Iowa.**

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) have introduced legislation to halt construction of new AI data centers until safeguards are in place.
☎️ **Join us to call Food & Water Watch supporters and patch them through to their representatives, making it easy for people to contact their legislators and urge them to support this critical bill!**
_No experience necessary. Those new to our phone banking will be trained at the beginning of our call. If you're experienced, you can start dialing right away. Staff will be available on the call for two hours to answer questions and help out._
The rapid expansion of data centers across the United States, driven by the AI and crypto boom, presents one of the biggest environmental and social challenges of our generation. They are exponentially increasing demand for energy and fossil fuel pollution, while at the same time straining our water resources and raising electricity prices across the country. The Iowa Water Quality Information System is a network of hundreds of sensors monitoring the pollution in Iowa's waterways across the state. Funding required to keep this network live is $600,000, which amounts to less than 1/10 of 1% of the state budget.
In February, Food & Water Watch, Iowa CCI, and Progress Iowa mobilized more than 150 Iowans to demand action on Iowa's water crisis! Before the end of the 2026 State Legislative Session, we're recruiting Iowans to commit to join a mass call-in day to target key legislators to support this campaign. **RSVP and share this pledge far and wide to help us hit our goal to recruit 200 Iowans to join us before we announce this day of action!**

This location has bumper-to-bumper traffic going to the beaches and Mount Tam on weekend mornings. It’s a great place to engage with drivers and passengers. Our rallies at this location are widely appreciated by passersby and tend to be extremely gratifying for participants.
Please come and bring as many people as you can. If you have signs, bring them. There will be extra signs.
