Biden will award Presidential Citizens Medal to 20 people, including Liz Cheney

President Joe Biden is bestowing the second highest civilian award on Liz Cheney and Bennie Thompson, who led the congressional investigation into the Capitol riot. Donald Trump has said that Cheney, a former Wyoming congresswoman, and Thompson, a Mississippi Democrat, should be jailed for their roles in the inquiry Biden will award the Presidential Citizens Medal to 20 people on Thursday. Recipients include Americans who fought for marriage equality, a pioneer in treating wounded soldiers, and several former senators and House members. The award was created by President Richard Nixon in 1969 and recognizes people who “performed exemplary deeds of service for their country or their fellow citizens.”

The task force on New Americans will be run by the Domestic Policy Council and the work will focus on workforce training, education and financial access and language learning and health.
