We have a codebar Brighton workshop this Tuesday at Octopus Energy. We're a charity helping support underrepresented communities in tech. We have some lovely coaches who volunteer their time to help beginners learn code or work on projects.

1830: arrive, grab pizza and meet the community

This week I went to Web Day Out hosted by @Clearleft and had a wonderful time. Here is where I got chatting and learnt about mastodon.

My key take away was that CSS is a lot more powerful now than ever so let's find ways to use that more over JavaScript. Also that we should be thinking about what libraries we are installing and if there is another solution.

It was great to talk to more developers and exchange ideas.

Hi everyone 👋

I’m Josh, a web developer based in the UK. I mainly work with modern frontend tools and love building fast, clean websites.

Recently I’ve been working with Astro, SCSS and building a small SaaS analytics project. Also been relearning the power of CSS and how we might not really need as much JS as you might think.

I’ll mostly post about web dev and things I'm learning and my volunteer work with codebar Brighton

Always happy to connect with other devs!

I went to the first #Codebar Cambridge in 2 years last night. There were 7 of us there, and 3 of us had a #Fairphone 4!

Not a Fairphone 6, not even a 5. We're all running last-last-last-last year's model because it still works great, is repairable and (as one person pointed out) upgradeable (she'd updated the camera).

Long-lasting, repairable electronics appear to be catching on. Yay!

Hello again, Faraz. Thanks for the response(s). More questions for you 🙂 I’m curious as to your thought process and how exactly you think about or determine what constitutes: stability versus hype. In my case, I look at: The foundation: is this thing tied to the language at its core, is it magic or fluff stuff? The ease of use. If it has a learning curve is the process of learning useful? Does the performance outweighs the investment of time. Then I look at the benefits. Is th...
