I met Harold Joe, a #Cowichan based #Indigenous knowledge keeper/teacher, actor & film producer, in 2015. He had come to Victoria to audition for a lead role in the Telus Optik webseries that I worked on for a few years. We casted him.
He's now co-owner & producer at Orca Cove Media with my old film production executive producer, Leslie Bland.

There's two #IndigenousFilm screenings at #UVIC in March with 2 films from Ocra Cove.

Revealing the old stories in a modern way called to multimedia artist

Writer and multimedia artist Andrea Grant considers her newest literature offering, Modern Natives, An Illustrative Collection of Reimagined Coast Salish Myths, a “calling.”Almost a decade ago, Grant was gifted “amazing archival information” from her Coast Salish tribe, the Pune'luxutth'. The tribe primarily lives on lands in the Southern Gulf Islands and on Vancouver Island, B.C. The main community of Spune'luxutth is located on Penelakut Island.

#Namgis #FirstNation #BigHouse - #AlertBay #CormorantIsland. From my 2023 visit.

The Namgis #FirstPeoples use their big house for cultural #community events. #T̓sasała #Cultural Group uses the big house for sharing cultural teachings, songs & dances.

"You will see the next generation of #Kwakwa̱k̕a̱wakw sharing our culture to educate the world about our ancient songs, dances, teachings and values. These teachings are still being passed on today to the children of T'sasała.

You will witness the dances of the T̕seka, our red cedar bark ceremony. You will see the traditional dances that connect us to the land, sky, and sea. The #T̕seka will be followed by the T̕ła'sala ceremony - peace dances, then finally the #A̱mlala or fun dances where you will get a chance to join in."
