back to reading cnovels ig. read marry my nemesis and then was like wah updates once a millenia?! onto the novel I go which goes by a different name

#sloggingthroughstuff #cnovel #manhua #marrymynemesis

@geraineon

I am currently reading "Culinary Chronicles of the Court Flower." A JLight Novel, set in an AU Chinese court. Like "The Apothecary Diaries" but fluffier. I am on volume 4.

The novel before that was "My Happy Marriage" vol. 8. Still a good series after 8 volumes.

With vol. 1 of Yuru Camp manga in between.

After the free read period on Culinary Chronicles is over I will probably read "Tearmoon Empire" vol. 15. It's stood up to a long series as well.

Or The Legendary Witch Is Reborn as an Oppressed Princess vol 4. It's a fun series.

4/5: Emperor Jingren hits his head and wakes up to a world where everyone is deeply, deeply weird! Us readers learn by ch3 that the world is filled with dimension hoppers/system players/transmigrators who all want to get close and intimate with the Emperor. Too bad for them because the Emperor only wants to spend time with his Empress–except that she’s a he and the Emperor curiously isn’t bothered by it too much. (Very open-minded for a straight person, eh, wink wink nudge nudge, say no more?) As the story progresses, the “players” start to be increasingly open about what’s going on but the rea...

Sinophagia curated by Ni Xueting was...an experience. It definitely deserved better editing.

voodoocactus's review of Sinophagia

3/5: The book offers content warning for each story, a chapter that’s opened with a dry remark along the lines of, “This is horror. If you’re reading this, you should expect, you know, horror.” Each story has end notes that discuss the themes of the story. Apparently some people find that annoying but I found it interesting. All in all…hm. The stories themselves varied from okay to ohhhhmy-this-was-good. Some were mostly melancholy without any horror elements (or at least any horror elements my Western eyeballs could catch), some were deliciously creepy and disturbing from the start. POV’s we...

Oops, I did not notice a skipped a week!

For this week's discussion Friday, let's talk about books that involve toppling governments/taking over/changing things from the inside/etc.

What are your fav c-novels with that theme of revolution/change?

What makes it work for you? When does a story like that not work for you?

If you haven't read a novel like that, feel free to talk about adaptations, or your dream novel.

Interpret cnovel as loosely as possible! (Originally in Chinese? Originally in English but you read it in Chinese [will be great to know what you think about the translation too!]? Chinese writer in a language other than Chinese? Everything goes!)

I read Purely by Accident by Leng Qian Shan and nope, still not a fan of romcom.

3/5: There’s a reason I don’t do romcoms, namely my low tolerance for second-hand embarrassment either because of plot twists or main character/s repeated subpar decision making. Having a “fun” twist in nearly every chapter makes it tedious to read but I can also readily admit that I was in quite a lot of pain while reading this so that might explain my crankiness. Wei Zisong, whose father is a small town government official (OR IS HE?), moonlights as a bandit chief whom her merry comrades gift a princess all gift wrapped and everything. We have the eldest imperial princess Chu Feichen who want...

Time for c-novel Discussion Friday again~

Transmigrations recently came up as a topic on here so let's talk about transmigration stories! Are there any settings/time period you think are under-utilized as a setting for the transmigrator to come from? Are there any settings/time period you think are under-utilized as a setting to transmigrate into? What are some of the things you wish these type of stories will do better? Have you read a particularly good story that uses this trope/this story setting really, really well?
