Working with @Liz29 to design & build a Japanese-style sushi board, to be carved into 3D using a CNC router, and then marked with Japanese characters using a CO2 laser. Started with her hand-drawn sketch, designed in 3D using #FreeCAD (on #Mint #Debian #Linux). Used FreeCAD CAM (computer aided manufacturing) tool to design the machine instructions for the #CNCRouter

What #OpenSource design tools (#CAD / #CAM) do you recommend for carving 3D organic designs onto wood?
Examples:
(1) Topographical maps
(2) Piano keys - angled bevels on the black keys
(3) 3D human face
Last year, I was using #FreeCAD, and was disappointed to find out FreeCAD's #CAM tool couldn't handle the angled slopes / black keys on the piano keyboard I designed.
Heard of people using: #Blender + CAM, #DuneCAD, #OpenSCAD and some other tools...

Wodden boxes I made for xmas presents.
Made with my #cncwoodoruter using #linuxcnc cad/cam was with vectric vcarve.
It was quite a challenge doing two sided machining. I ended up making a fixture, to machine the outside.
Topsides were a 2.5D relief motive. Bottom was engraved with "made by pedersen, xmas 2025, for y"
Walnut wood finished with furniture wax made from beeswax and linseed oil.
