The remains of what I think is part of the old Meadowside Ferry port. The Meadowside Ferry was one of around ten different ferry routes which used to criss-cross the Clyde in Glasgow. It connected Govan Wharf with the former Meadowside Shipyard, Quay and Granary, all of which are now gone. This ferry ceased operating in 1966, along with the Govan Ferry and the Finnieston Vehicular Ferry.
AGI - Uno scandalo inatteso.
Scandal in the United Kingdom: Navy sailors are using drugs on nuclear submarines.
NATO - An unexpected scandal. In seven years, over 170 members of Britain’s elite naval force deployed on nuclear submarines have been caught using drugs. This is reported in a report from the Ministry of Defence in London. Subjected to surprise tests, from 2018 to 2024, 175 sailors tested positive for substances, including cocaine, cannabis, ecstasy, steroids and benzodiazepines.
In 52 cases, 12 of which were only in 2024, the submariners were found positive while on duty aboard a submarine. Almost all of the individuals caught using drugs were dismissed, with only a few others being spared thanks to mitigating circumstances.
Concerns for Safety and Vanguard Submarines
No drugs were found during submarine searches, but the case will undoubtedly raise concerns about safety. It is believed that some of the sailors who had failed drug tests worked on the four Vanguard-class submarines, one of which must always be at sea, carrying the UK’s most advanced weapons: the Trident 2 nuclear missiles.
Increasing Pressure on the Submarine Service
The submarine service is facing increasing pressure, with personnel serving on the Vanguard forced to longer periods at sea, the Telegraph notes. Last year, a submarine returned to its Clyde naval base in Scotland after a record 204 days underwater.
