After a full productive — nine dozen — day of clamming, we seriously slept in.
Late breakfast? Early lunch? Late lunch? Maybe…
Cheesesteak seemed just right and we split a King Louie at Cheesesteak Louie’s in Seaside Heights.
Not sure how many pounds of rib eye they were able to fit into this bun. A few? The bread was fresh and soft. The meat was real, buttery rich, beefy, tender, not greasy, not gristly, cooked just right to remain juicy without running down your hands. With provolone, mushrooms, hot peppers, bell peppers — all crunchy, not mushy, and not salty like fast food that makes you chug water after a few bites.
Usually, I don’t like french fries but my dining partner is a fries connoisseur so I sample his choices. These were probably the best ones in a very long time: not greasy, crispy outside, not hollow but soft inside, tasting like actual potatoes.
We did not feel lethargically stuffed but this one sandwich held the two of us through the whole day at the beach. We didn’t even think about food.
As I type this the next morning, I am still not hungry.
