In an effort to apply more of my coding skills in a civic minded way, I've been starting to analyze and improve the OpenElections project's data: https://github.com/openelections/specs/issues/8

Compliance to the Specs: Next Steps · Issue #8 · openelections/specs

So one of my reasons for filing #6 and #7 was to formalize some rules, based on what I observed in the data, and then figure out where the data diverged from those rules. I've compiled my results i...

Next steps:
- More data from the party websites
- Candidate statements (and embeddings which is where the real fun begins)
- Show candidates "neighbors" based on geodata

If I get help I'd love to get data from social media, find more open datasets to join in, and anything else you can think of. I need help! If you're a developer interested in #civics #civichacking and #irishpolitics, or just want experience with #nushell, #datasette, or #sqlite - please reply to me here, there's plenty to do.

The good hacker: can Taiwanese activist turned politician Audrey Tang detoxify the internet?

As the ‘civic hacker’ who became Taiwan’s first transgender cabinet minister, she is used to breaking boundaries. What can the rest of the world learn from her vision of a happy and inclusive web?

2. le persone e il capitale sociale che si portano dietro cambiano davvero le cose, quando si mette sul piatto un vero rapporto di #collaborazione. Il caso di IT-alert è davvero una bella pratica, dovrebbe essere la consuetudine, ma è ancora un caso troppo isolato nel rapporto tra le parti;
3. #crisiclimatica, riuso e #PNRR: qui è dove io ho perso la pazienza. Qui è dove la collaborazione è una presa per i fondelli della società civile.

Here's an update on the #civicHacking project I've been posting about ... the #Austin Public #Library Event Finder.

I've got an unstyled prototype that's setup and doing round trips to the API service.

Screenshot attached.

I'm far enough along in my #civicHacking project to tell you the working title is "APL Event Finder". It will provide advanced search and notifications for events at the #Austin Public #Library.

The two core microservices have MVP implementations. This weekend I'll start on the UI. That'll be fun. Haven't done significant front-end work in years. (Last time I did I used knockout.js ... 'member that?)
