"I'm--I'm doing it," Chu Wanning says, bright red. He glances back at Mo Ran. Mo Ran is scowling, looking almost murderous in his chair off to the side.
"Scoot a little to the left," the portrait painter directs, gesturing with their brush. "Okay, now go."
Blushing furiously, Chu Wanning bends to take off a shoe.
One shoe.
"Both," the portrait painter tells him, sounding almost bored. This is the fifth series they've done this week, after all.
Chu Wanning kicks off his other shoe. He glances at Mo Ran again. Mo Ran is still glaring at the portrait painter, but he seems a little distracted.
"And your socks," the portrait painter says, looking like they would rather be anywhere but here. "This is meant to be motivating."
"How are my feet motivating?" Chu Wanning asks indignantly. "They're just feet."
Behind him, Mo Ran audibly opens his mouth to speak, then closes it, seemingly having thought better of it.
"Just take them off," the portrait painter says. "I'm sure I can find some way to--" they glance at Mo Ran-- "ahem, accurately portray your beauty."
Chu Wanning yanks one sock off, then the other, glaring at the portrait painter and then at Mo Ran.
"What did I do?!" Mo Ran demands. Chu Wanning turns away with a huff.
"Okay, now stand there," the portrait painter says. Chu Wanning glares at them and continues glaring until they start to paint.
