This church survived the war unscathed and was therefore chosen by the British occupying forces after the war as a place to hold their services. However, during both world wars, the parish had to surrender the church bells for use in war production.
Construction of the church was completed in 1883. Over time, however, the church tower became warped due to weathering. For this reason, the top 20 meters were demolished and rebuilt before the church’s centennial celebration.
