with google TV, you can cast google photos, youtube and hundreds of other apps / services from an iphone/ipad *and* android.

with an apple TV, you can only use airplay, to cast from iphone/ipad, no android support.

google TV supports both major platforms. apple tv only supports one.

Can we get an option to download the official Google photos app onto ccwgtv? So we can browse a photo library with a remote and not just via "casting"? casting is nice, but it'd also be nice if we could install an official Google photos app from the play store on Google TV. Thank you

This way, you can power devices like firestick TV, chromecast with GoogleTV, and Tivo Stream 4k directly from the TV, without having to plug it into the wall below. less wires, cleaner look, no boot-looping, thanks to usbc-power delivery's proper power delivery compared to old school usb-A.

draft - tvs need usbc power delivery ports. i'll give you one very important example why. i tried plugging my tivo stream 4k into my TV directly, but it doesn't seem to be drawing enough power, because it keeps boot looping. i was wanting to plug it directly into the main family TV room. If these types of devices were powered by usbc and the tvs had proper usbc power delivery ports to power these types of devices, then it’d be quite innovative. However, as it stands, you’d have to like plug it into the wall and then people are like…”what are you doing” as opposed to just being able to plug it into the tv which is more legit.

I knew this device was coming and this post by @nexusben (hey great to see you having a Mastodon profile) confirmed that it has everything I wanted. The one big swing and a miss seems to be the form factor. This does not look like a device designed to be hidden behind the TV out of sight and I definitely don't want an HDMI cable dangling from it. So do I stick it onto my soundbar or is there a stick form factor version coming sans speaker?
