I started reading Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman and it's such an amazing book! Never thought I would get through so many pages in a single sitting.
Jake Mixpavisse - an oblong shield used during the mid-14th to early 16th centuries. Often large enough to cover the entire body, it was used by archers, crossbowmen, and other infantry soldiers on the battlefield.

Shantell Powell@Knightky and I listen to audiobooks on long road trips. This time, we listened to Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman. What at first seems like a basic Middle Ages historical book turns into some seriously wild dark fantasy. I imagined a wackadoo anime for certain scenes. It features a disgraced knight, a naive orphan, and a gay priest on a mysterious quest. Set in France during the time of the Black Plague and the crusades, it portrays religious beliefs and superstitions of the time as literal phenomena. I think Buehlman is my new favourite author. @Knightky and I have been listening to the audiobook of Christopher Buehlman’s “Between Two Fires” as we head to the Maritimes. This is an adventure tale taking place during the Black Plague in early medieval Europe, and I’m really enjoying it. It is by turns hilarious and horrifying. I’ve been bingeing the audiobook for The Lesser Dead by Christopher Buehlman. I didn’t even know what it was about when I started listening, but was immediately sucked in. Turns out the author is also an excellent narrator. And the narrator is an excellent author. This is the first vampire novel I’ve checked out in years (excepting Dracula), and I’m loving it. It scratches my old Vampire The Masquerade itch. The story feels very much like a campaign following one of a bunch of Anarchs in 1978.
