The very cold-looking Lark Sparrow we spotted yesterday, hanging out with a hundred or so Juncos at the cemetery.

As far as eBird goes, this appears to be the first winter record for northeast Oregon

Well the Christmas Bird Count ended up pretty great. It was a COLD, beautiful day.

We had some shocking misses, as seems to always be the case with CBCs, but we powered through and got to 60 species on the day by the skin of our teeth, besting last year's record for our sector by 1 species!

Christmas Bird Count here tomorrow. We had reports of Bohemian Waxwings in town today along with a couple of other relative rarities.

Hoping this fresh blanket of snow will have pushed some things into the valley! Feeling much more promising than it was just a couple of days ago

For birding folks and map creators:

Any idea how this Ann Arbor Christmas Bird Count map was created in Google Maps?

I participated in their Christmas Bird Count last week; their map was very helpful!

Things I didn't know about Google Maps:

1. You can create a radius map
2. You can highlight several specific areas on a map

@Karen5Lund Nice! I didn't take any photos at last Saturday's Christmas Bird Count. But planning to do that on my next CBC on January 1.

Question for you: do you know how your CBC creates their circle map and areas?

I participated in last week's Ann Arbor Christmas Bird Count map and they have a really helpful map:

As promised, a photo of the Peregrine Falcon from Saturday's Christmas Bird Count, and another of our intrepid bird counters. It was a chilly day and quite windy on the beach, but worth it.

Here are a few group photos from yesterday. Dang, I'm so tall.

Reading someone's description of whether to count a bird in a Christmas Bird Count circle had me laughing.

"If you know it’s In, count it.
If you think it’s In, count it.
If your aren’t sure, count it."
