L'Unità: Papa Leone risponde alle minacce di Trump: “Non mi fai paura”

Uno scontro senza precedenti tra il Presidente degli Stati Uniti e il Papa. Una frattura mai vista tra l’Occidente e la cristianità. Che ha un enorme valore politico e un altrettanto enorme valore morale. Trump ha attaccato con furia il pontefice e la sua scelta di opporsi alla guerra, alla politica americana e i suoi interventi in Venezuela e in Iran. Il papa ha risposto con molta calma: “Non mi fa paura”.
Anche per l’Europa, che spesso rivendica le proprie radici cristiane, è un problema. Diventa difficile chiamarsi fuori perché alla base di questo scontro non c’è politichetta o questioni di schieramento, ci sono principi fondamentali della convivenza umana. Il papa ha insistito su un punto. Ha detto: io semplicemente difendo il Vangelo e a quello mi riferisco. E quando gli hanno detto che l’attacco di Trump era arrivato dalla piattaforma “Truth” ha sorriso e ha commentato con un po’ di perfidia: “È un nome ironico…”.
Trump su “Truth” aveva scritto: “È debole sul fronte della criminalità e pessimo in politica estera. Preferisco di gran lunga suo fratello Louis perché è totalmente Maga. Non voglio un Papa che ritenga accettabile che l’Iran possieda l’arma nucleare. Non voglio un Papa che trovi terribile il fatto che l’America abbia attaccato il Venezuela. E non voglio un Papa che critichi il presidente americano poiché sto facendo esattamente ciò per cui sono stato eletto, con una vittoria schiacciante”. Trump in poche righe scrive tre volte: “non voglio un papa…” Diciamo che sono frasi minacciose, specie dopo che J.D. Vance aveva parlato di Avignone. Cioè della cattura dei Papi, nel 1300, da parte dei re francesi.

Trump on “Truth” had written: “He is weak on the issue of crime and terrible in foreign policy. I greatly prefer his brother Louis because he is totally Maga. I do not want a Pope who considers it acceptable for Iran to possess nuclear weapons. I do not want a Pope who finds terrible the fact that America attacked Venezuela. And I do not want a Pope who criticizes the American president because I am doing exactly what I was elected for, with a crushing victory.” Trump in a few lines writes three times: “I don’t want a Pope…” Let’s say they are threatening statements, especially after J.D. Vance had spoken of Avignon. That is, of the capture of the Popes, in 1300, by the French kings.
