This snuff bottle’s cobalt-blue dragon coils around a field of lotus scrolls, its claws gripping the porcelain as if mid-flight. The tension between static glaze and dynamic design suggests movement frozen in time—how many breaths did it hold before becoming art?

The exterior of this jar is ornamented with two rampant five-clawed dragons boldly drawn in <em>rouge de fer</em>. The dragons are in pursuit of the sacred jewel amid cloud scrolls in green and yellow, flanked at the top and bottom with broad registers of cloud scrolls and gadroons. The underfoot is glazed and bears a six-character <em>nianhao </em>in the form of a vertical mark reading "Daming Jiajing nianzhi," enclosed in double rings in underglaze cobalt blue.

Antwerp! Lovely touristic map of the city of Antwerp in 1892 from the collections of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

What I appreciate, next to the map, are the vintage advertisements of Antwerp shops and restaurants. This one is from Ferd. Moris where you could find Asian objects like porcelain and bronzes.

Dish from Snow-Flake Side Dishes | Cleveland Museum of Art

According to the box lid, this set of six side dishes, or <em>mukōzuke</em>, are “snow-flower style” (<em>sekkashiki</em>), having mouths shaped like snowflakes. Their mouths, which have six lobes and scalloped edges, are traced with brown iron oxide at the rim. The outside of each bowl is glazed with a very bright pink over the basin and foot, and the inside is left white. From directly above, one sees a snowflake-like shape, and from the side, they seem to float above a rosy ground.
