For the 2nd #FolktaleWeek2024 #FolktaleWeekGate I made a #linocut illustrating the Chinese legend of Longmen or The Dragon Gate atop a waterfall on a legendary mountain. According to folklore, many carp swim upstream in the mighty Yellow River, against the strong current, but few are brave or strong enough to make the jump over the waterfall where it cut through a cleft in the Longmen mountains. 🧵1/n

In one Chinese fable, a proud fox mocked a crab for his slowness, so the crab suggested they run a race. Unbeknownst to his opponent, the clever crab grabbed hold of the fox's tail so no matter how fast the fox ran, he always heard the crab right behind him. #FolkloreSunday
