About half my chillies have germinated already - some time in the last 36 hours anyway. Chamomile soaked from 25th Jan, planted in pairs in mini pots on 28th Jan and popped into the #HotFridge, germinated circa 3rd/4th Feb.

If there is a race to be won here I guess the prize goes to the Chilli Chump "Kimchi Pepper" seeds — all 4 seeds strongly germinated!

Currently our no-shows are Chilli Chump Naga Morich, and also both Rocoto varieties (Marlene and Costa Rica, also both Chilli Chump, from last year.)

On the superhot germination front we have have a single Naga Morich from Fatalii and a single 7 Pot Brainstrain Yellow from Chilli Chump. That's pretty speedy for superhots really.

Chilli seeds are in dirt after ~48h in chamomile.

That's the first seeds of 2026 in: 7Pot Brainstrain Yellow, Aji Habanero, Aji Mango, CC Piri Piri, Chupetinho White, Goronong, Habenero Hot Lemon, Kashmiri Mirch, Kimchi Pepper, Naga Morich from Chilli Chump, Naga Morich from Fatalii, Rawit, Rocoto Costa Rica, Rocoto Marlene.

Two seeds per mini-pot, four of each variety total, fiftysix seeds in. (There are a few more to come.)

Lunch break used to ponder chilli seeds.

I need to get some into dirt soonish.

I don't rush into this too much as I don't really think there's that big a difference between chillies germinated on 1st Jan vs 1st Feb with my climate and facilities. (May differ if you have ideal indoor growing conditions and time and organisation for a very responsive potting-on riegeme!)

The photo shows the seed pool I will pull from — almost all from Chilli Chump and Fatalii, plus Padrons from Nikki's. (I have other packets from some other suppliers but they're all "retired".)

The ones left of centre are previous years, the ones to the right are new supply for this year (except the far-right, wich are older).

Trying to limit to under 20 varieties. It is hard!

(Upside down bottom-centre did not grow true to type across multiple plants, but they were a highly prolific med-low heat red chilli that made great flakes, so not counted out yet, lots to pick from tho!)

I got lazy and this year it is just going to be all my bets placed on a single ferment.... I'm calling it "all the red ones"... well, almost all, kept a few back for other purposes - and also in went some yellow Trinidad Perfume. I don't really do rules. I am chaos. (You should see the state of my kitchen, or pigsty as some may consider it. I just don't know how people do things and also have tidy and clean spaces, there isn't enough time to even just do the things as it is.)

Anyway... the chillies in the mash are, in approx order of volume: thunder mountain long horn, unknown red chilli, naga morich, trinidad perfume, cc piri piri... probably some others snooked in too.

Slightly under 1kg of mash, 2.5% salt by weight.

Now it just needs to sit for a few weeks/months/until-i-can-be-arsed-with-it.
