GORGEOUS MONSTERS & THEIR PETS
Welcome to my new interview series. I am the official human spokesperson for the Guardian Monster Guild, editor of the Monster Times & Review and author of the glamorous tell-all book, What Monsters Want. These are hard-won credentials that I have worked tirelessly to obtain. As an ordinary human being, entering the realm of Monsterdom requires a rigorous determination, and an ego that can survive all manner of taunts, threats and indignation. I have endured countless nips, pokes and licks from numerous monsters whose intent, it seems, was to provoke me into giving up. I have proved them wrong! NOTE: This latest set of interviews on monster pets is for human eyes only and includes interviews with a select group from the Gorgeous Monsters Society. (This is the name they give themselves.) Some say that friends must be actual physical beings to count as REAL. Why, I ask? I have REAL imaginary friends who are quite lovely and can be most helpful in a pinch. When I'm having a really bad day, need a bit of advice, or if I'm just feeling blue, my REAL imaginary friends are exactly the ones I want around for comfort. Monsters have babies too.
Baby monsters are even harder to find than the elusive "baby" pigeon. Very few folks can say that they've seen them, let alone created their portraits. I have been lucky. As you might imagine, monster parents can be a bit protective. Mothers in particular. They consider us (humans) more than a bit strange and potentially dangerous. It took most of my free time, lots of monster "treats" and carefully followed Monster Etiquette to befriend just a few of them. Even then, I felt a bit nervous and on edge as I made sketches of their most beloved offspring. It is always a good idea to remind oneself that monsters are ultimately unpredictable creatures, and should be given proper respect at all times.
