There's this weird genre of videos that over-analyze TV shows for kids who can't even read yet; the vast majority of those piss on the main character(s) for doing normal child things.

Sad because they didn't get the toy they wanted? Spoiled brat!
Has no idea how to handle a person who acts in a way they've never seen before? Bigot!
Jealous that a sibling is having a birthday? EVIIIIIIIIIL

Some people are even shitting on the fact that some shows have the cast be largely *gasp* kind to the kids!

Thinking a lot about #ChildrensMedia lately. I am watching #Totoro with my three year old right now. My Neighbor Totoro came out in 1988, The Little Mermaid came out in 1989. Both movies are aimed at young children, both are fantasies, both feature young female protagonists, but that is largely where the similarities end.

As a kid, watched and sang along with the Little Mermaid. I enjoyed it a lot. Now, I would not care to have my young child watch it. To start, I think of the fathers…
