A colleague at the #library handed me this picture book and said I'd like it. Yes, yes I did. It's full of witty rhymes and cute illustrations of all the things a kid might want to put in their pockets.

It's cute and validating, but I also have to wonder what has to go wrong in a society before a writer feels compelled to start hinting to young readers that they don't have to settle for pocket-less clothes.

Just read Make Believe: On Telling Stories to Children by Mac Barnett — highly recommend, and not just if you have kids yourself.

It’s insightful, funny and joyful, and very warm and respectful about children’s capabilities. It definitely made me nostalgic for the picture book days (I still read with my teen, but it’s not the same as the magic of those early days).
