A spox for the Democratic congressman, confirmed the 2 had arrived home. She said Castro picked them up from Dilley on Saturday night & escorted them home on Sunday to Minnesota.

US ordered to release 5-year-old and dad taken into custody in Minnesota

A judge has ordered the U.S. to release a father and 5-year-old son who were taken into custody during the immigration crackdown in Minnesota. Images of preschooler Liam Conejo Ramos in a bunny hat and Spider-Man backpack being surrounded by federal agents in a Minneapolis suburb on Jan. 20 added to the outcry about the immigration actions of President Donald Trump’s administration. The government says the father and son, originally from Ecuador, entered the U.S. in 2024. They were taken to a detention facility in Dilley, Texas. The judge previously ruled that they could not be removed from the U.S. for now.

The #CoreCivic #PrivatePrison facility was closed during the #Biden admin & reopened in March 2025 after #Trump retook the presidency. A lawsuit is challenging the facility’s conditions, including inadequate #food, #water & #medical care.

Liam Conejo Ramos, the 5-year-old #ICE detained last week in #Minnesota, is being held in Dilley, #Texas in a center owned by #CoreCivic, a #PrivatePrison company that donated heavily to #Trump’s campaign. Liam is now reportedly sick because of the poor facility conditions.
