Tonight at 6pm at Harold Washington Library Center, our summer exploration of nature continues - join us as Neil Shubin discusses his new book, Ends Of The Earth: Journeys To The Polar Regions In Search Of Life, The Cosmos, And Our Future https://chipublib.bibliocommons.com/events/6765ca15b77ff72800234d82 #science #nature #chicagoevents #libraries
Author Neil Shubin: Ends of the Earth

Neil Shubin appears to discuss his new book, Ends Of The Earth: Journeys To The Polar Regions In Search Of Life, The Cosmos, And Our Future Chicagoan Neil Shubin is the author of Some Assembly Required, Your Inner Fish, and The Universe Within. He is the Robert R. Bensley Professor of Organismal Biology and Anatomy at the University of Chicago. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2011. Shubin's new book, Ends of the Earth: Journeys to the Polar Regions in Search of Life, the Cosmos, and Our Future, tells the stories of the polar regions as they have never been told before, sharing the tales of his own expeditions and discoveries as well as the scientists who worked before and beside him. He creates a lens for readers to learn about themselves through the increasingly fragile ice that caps our planet, and displays how the polar regions have shaped our past and will shape our future. Blending travel, science, and environmental writing, Ends of the Earth deepens our understanding of animal and plant life, the history of our ice ages, the age of dinosaurs, the history of Western exploration, and the clues that meteorites preserved at the poles contain about the cosmos. How to Attend: Doors to the Auditorium open at 5:30 p.m., and seating is first come, first served (350 capacity). Books are available for purchase and the author will autograph books at the conclusion of the program. This event will also take place live on CPL's YouTube channel and CPL's Facebook page. You'll be able to ask questions during the event as well! Can't make it to the live stream? We'll archive the video on YouTube to watch later.
