Also, while there’s some fictionalizing in it, the 2022 film “Chevalier” starring New Orleans actor and musician Kelvin Harrison Jr. is a pretty good watch. You can watch it on D*sney+/Hulu and for free here (http://ok.ru/video/7641207147143)

And finally, “Symphony No. 1 in G Major, Op. 11 (https://youtu.be/JpeLMajSdPk?si=Aj5gZ3GNknQ_jzch) which was written in the early 1770s and was considered by Joseph Bologne to be one of his finest works. The movements are , again, lively but in a very dance-y way compared to some of his other work.

There’s a really great 2006 biography about Chevalier titled “The Chevalier de Saint-Georges: Virtuoso of the Sword and the Bow” by Romanian violinist Gabriel Banat . You can read it for free here (https://archive.org/details/chevalierdesaint0000bana)

“Allegro from Symphonie concertante in G Major, Op. 13. (https://youtu.be/VRBUA5rgaLs?si=39gZloptLNC3Jy2X) is a really interesting piece because it marries the structures of a full orchestral arrangement with that of a concerto to make a really lively and charming piece.

Another one of Bologne’s “14 Violin Concertos”, “Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 11” (https://youtu.be/jxoL3BlHfBs?si=J6l1sBZ9-FvKyen6) was often used as the overture for his only opera “L'Amant Anonyme”

“Concerto Op. 5 No. 1” (https://youtu.be/rbf657Nqvsw?si=TLo1Ou4BDRhKdlQ3) is one of Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges’s 14 Violin Concertos. Despite sometimes being referred to as the “Black Mozart” and their shared penchant for utilizing much of the full range potential of the violin and use of rapid upward scales, Chevalier’s work pre-dates that of Mozart.
