Learned an interesting fact today... Its kind of common sense iff you have a persistent and powerful cough it can irritate your lungs but when the outside lining of you lungs become irritated it can produce sharp chest pains that don't seem related to breathing or coughing at all.

I've had a horrible cough for about a week or two with spells that last for a minute or more and cause me to get light headed or grey out (obviously POTS related). Last night it got worse to the point that I began vomiting and then started having pains across my chest and occasionally down into my stomach as well. Reluctantly I talked myself into going to the ER and after Iabs and X ray as well as (thankfully) 2L of saline that's what was explained to me.

How do you know if you've popped a rib "out of socket"?

I sneezed this morning and thought I pulled a muscle, but the pain is intense and hasn't let up all day. I started to wonder if it was something more when I sneezed again this evening, and there was a very clear popping sensation accompanied by even more intense pain. It's right around the area where my rib would meet the cartilage next to my sternum.

I've been unable to cough effectively all day long. Every cough, even a mild one, is super painful. Meanwhile, I feel like I'm suffocating or drowning because I can't clear my airway effectively.

If it is a dislocated rib, what do I do? How do I fix it or at least get the pain to ease up? How do I stop this from happening again?
