13 years ago #today, a small (~18 meter diameter) asteroid impacted over #Chelyabinsk, Russia, and exploded at 22 km altitude, shattering windows and damaging some buildings. Thousands of small (and a few larger) fragments like these rained down. It was the largest impact of the last 100 years.

ℹ️ Founded in 1939, the #Plastmass plant is located at the junction of #Chelyabinsk and #Kopeysk. It is primarily a defence enterprise with a huge state defence order.

The plant produces industrial explosives, including those made using products obtained from the disposal of military equipment. The enterprise is part of the #NPK_Tekhmash holding / #JSC_Technodinamika – within the state corporation #Rostec.

The plant regularly conducts tests of new products accompanied by explosions.
