So a little get to know ya: I was once a long long time ago in a country far away studying to be a Computer Scientist. I was set to gradulate Cum Laude. A divorce put me in a position where I needed to move from my dish hand/part time position to full time somehow. So I worked my ass off until I was promoted to Appitizer. From App I worked my very quickly upwards until at 6 months exp a Sous chef of 15 years said I acted like I had 2 years of experience.

I'm naturally talented to Culinary. However, the Cum Laude senior year Computer Science at Colorado State University was ongoing. Summer ended and so did my life. My first all nighter was the first tuesday of class. I was working 50 hour weeks all while doing Senior level full-time course work. I was spending about 45 minutes a day awake at my home. That's it that wasn't sleeping.

It is at this point I made a life altering decision. I was going to leave University. Deans, Friends, Family members, they all begged me not to give up. Throw in the towel for a job that I would never earn as much, however, it was the right decision.

You know why? Not only did I not have to give up my soul and am now the head chef of a restaurant in an entire different country but because I see "Looking for Work" or "Fedi Hired" or "Just got layed of my IT job in Germany and now I'm about to get deproted".

The West has failed. Capitalism has failed. The idea that everyone should be forced into a high level white collar job is not jost built to fail but impossible in the first place. We have saturated a workforce with the wrong education and worst of all told them "If you do this you will succeed" then Boomers hoarded all the wealth and told us Gen X and youngers to go fuck ourselves.

Yes I believe the AI boom is built on a bubble that's doomed to fail. Yes that will likely lead to better hiring conditions. However, I didn't leave because of hiring opportunities. People told me my hiring prospects and earning potential was better in Comp Sci. I did it because I love kitchens and every single time I did CS Industry work I felt like I was selling a little bit of my soul when I clicked push. I did it for the teamwork, the stress and the pace not the pay.

Turns out a job older than capitalism will almost certainly outlive it. It also turns out the lies of capitalism are just lies. Forcing everyone away from what they want to do or are skilled to do for "Profit" and "Prosperity" is a really bad idea. If you are working in IT or Art, my feelings go out to you. Hopefully AI dies sooner rather than later.
