Last point regarding #Cenote fragility: the building of bridges and foundations with pillars rammed into the soil have been pointed as damaging the underground channel systems. This point I cannot assess. Officials have admitted a lack of environmental impact assessment and it is important to upkeep pressure so it's being done to mitigate issues. I have however not seen or heard of any actual damage so far, but only the fear thereof. I am happy to receive more information and studies if any?

A second major environmental concern is for the region's fragile #cenote systems. #Yucatán peninsula does not have rivers, but water infiltrates in the porous limestone and converges in natural basins and wells where water is drawn from. I can easily imagine how a government with limited means and exposure to corruption would neglect an in-depth analysis of the impact of the #TrenMaya project on such precious ecosystem.
