Reminder that the #BillC27 would end informed consent, make the requirement for knowledge and consent the exception instead of the rule, and make it take even longer for corporations to be held accountable when they break the law. It also gives the OPC new gatekeeping powers to bar individuals from seeking remedies. Tell your MP to stop this Bill.
Privacy laws in Ontario are broken. Schools are able to share sensitive education records to bully students, hospitals are allowed to send personal health information to the wrong person, institutions are able to have secret cameras, ect.. These things are all illegal but they happen probably every day in this province. Demand better from your MPP. I've personally been the victim of all 3. Don't be trampled.
On #privacy law I propose the creation of privacy protection and government records tribunal. The IPC has failed many people when their privacy has been breached in the public sector. I'm going to empower people to take direct action when this happens, instead of relying on a gatekeeper.
I also propose new privacy legislation for the non-profit sector. There is currently no general privacy legislation in that sector, and general practices in that sector can be horrible.

An issue that I don't think gets discussed enough is cloud #surveillanceCameras. A few organizations including #Amazon control the vast majority of #surveillance footage. These corporations are collecting personal information for commercial purposes without consent in contravention to #PIPEDA. We should demand better.
