Tales from the Penny Bloods1871, & the Crystal Palace hosts a Cat Show, organised by natural history artist, Harrison Weir.
Over 150 cats (accompanied by their humans) turned up for the show; they sat on crimson cushions, lapping up milk and being petted by their pet humans - for the benefit of over 20,000 spectators. All in all, the show was a success. and was the only the first of many.
No fewer than 5 more Cat Shows were held the same year, and the trend has continued ever since.
