🐈‍⬛Cat Introduction🐈‍⬛

Meet Koi!

Our third and final cat of our family. We speculate that Koi is a larger breed of cat, maybe a Maine coon or Norwegian Forest breed at no more than a year old.

We met Koi after finding him in the freezing cold of a November evening on the week of thanksgiving. He was just a kitten (older but still a kitten) skinny, starved, scared and sick. We exhausted our options looking for his previous family, but never found them.

He was sick and had contagious ear mites. Sadly with it being a holiday week all veterinary clinics were closed. We had to quarantine him in our extra bathroom for about two weeks before and while we treated him (after an eventual vet visit) I also did oil drowning of the ear mites which helped a lot especially with the itching.

Koi got his name from his striking and handsome appearance. With a black and white coat and very long whiskers. Hence he looks a like a Koi fish.

Other than his striking appearance, another unique features of Koi is his exclusive vocalization of cooing like a pigeon. With only meowing when he’s very excited.

Generally he keeps to himself, getting along with his sibling cats, but never fully confident in joining in a game of chase or wrestling.

His favorite thing is sleeping at his spot in my bedroom floor on his blanket nest.

Koi has yet to come out of his shell fully and everyday he grows in size and confidence!

Thanks for getting to know Koi!

This is Gunther
Our second eldest of the families cats. At just a 1 year and 9 months old with a tuxedo print of short fur and white mittens Gunther is the Certified Troublemaker of our home.

Always getting into everything and anything which is not his. Included but not limited to, trash cans, cupboard cabinets, baskets, drawers, closets and counters and a pallet for anything from delicious cat food to plastic bags and paper towels he really knows how to keep things interesting.

Gunther became a part of the family after my partner and I noticed Jericho yowling with loneliness almost every night, no matter what we tried, it was clear, we needed a cat sibling for Jericho.

My partner had been gifted some cash for his birthday and it just so happened my co-worker was desperately trying to find homes for her barn cats kittens, who were free of charge, making things that much better. So like my partner, Gunter has a birthday in April and once he was old enough we brought him home (the birthday money went to veterinary care)

Gunther’s days consist of mostly side quests of food searching and naps, with thee occasional game of jingle ball fetch(his favorite being a yellow and orange cage bell one he can pick up easily with his mouth)
It’s hard to say what his favorite food is since he loves all and will eat anything.

Gunther can usually be found not far from Jerchio or my partners lap. His absolute favorite thing besides food is any cardboard box! And it is his job to inspect every one that crosses the threshold of our home.

He enjoys the occasional “talking back” to myself and partner. He’s least favorite thing is meeting strangers, the animal or human kind.

Thanks for getting to know Gunter! Though he won’t be in as many of my posts like Jericho, on account of is a-social nature.

This is Jericho.

Not only is he my eldest of my three cats, he is my first cat I’ve had as my own.

I grew up in a “dog people” family and never thought I’d want a cat. But I’m so glad I was wrong.☺️

Jericho is a Russian Blue male about 2-3 years of age. He found our family one October night on a full moon (which is where he gets his name which translates in Greek to moon city)

My partner and I did everything in our power to find whomever was his previous owner but had no luck.

Fortunately he was able to become a permanent resident of our house. With my partner being out of the country for work (after we had just moved to a new state) Jericho was and is a great blessing. Exactly who I needed.

He kept me company especially in the time after his arrival, protecting and comforting me for the 6 months my partner was away.

I call Jericho my little Protector. He’s brave and curious, always wanting to be outside on a walk, hunting or at my alter. I swear he even sees ghosts 😅

Jericho is a very paternal cat. With absorbent amounts of patience for us humans and especially his cat siblings. His obliging nature and nurture tendencies make him a great comfort to have in our family.

He can usually be found bird watching on his window chair or at my heels, especially if I’m cooking chicken 😆.

He loves blankets, string and wrestling. His favorite foods in addition to chicken are bacon, and ice cream (he is a counter thief on his own volition)

Thank you for getting to know Jericho. He will continue to appear on my page especially in alter and outfit photos.

Say hello to our cat, Trouble.

Here she is innocently sitting on the stairs, where she regularly sits and trips people up, especially at night when she is nearly invisible. My last trip over her had me clattering into and nearly over the railing. Obviously this was my fault.

Oh and no, we did not name her “Trouble". She's adopted and that was what her previous family had named her. We cannot imagine why they picked that name …

Some late #Caturday pics. I was visiting my brother's family yesterday, and got to see his #cats. The two gray/calico ones are sisters, and the black and white one is a male they adopted, who's not quite a year old.

The gray ones have met George, but the black and white one hasn't yet. The towel one of them is sniffing is one I had George laying on in his carrier, and I wanted them to sniff it. They all did, with no real objection. The hope is that eventually they can all coexist if they have to, eg if we go somewhere as a family, George can have company, and we can get one pet sitter.

I didn't bring George for this visit, but will attempt it eventually. In the mean time, they are all wonderful cats and more or less coexist with each other.

@eliotlovell
Or are you in need of advice how to "vergesellschaften" the kitties? (I love that German word!) Here is my experience from several cat pairings over the years:

Patience.
Room to retreat for the newbie.
Keep the meetings positive (with treats or calm play when meeting).
A bit of hissing is normal, as long as there is no real attack.
If attack happens, go one step back, more patience.

Good advice from Jackson Galaxy, US cat guru :)

This is Satine. She is a 3 year old rescue from a 150+ cat horde house. She's been in our family now for 6 months and we have yet to even pet her.

She's a late night explorer, slowly learning to meow, and has been a major part of my journey this year.
