I went fishing at a small pond which surprisingly has a small population of northern pike, esox lucius.
What is perhaps even more surprising is that they are doing well enough to breed, because we saw 5-9 cm fry basically everywhere we looked long enough. Granted, most of them are likely eaten by their parents within winter, because pike are highly cannibalistic, but it's cool to see life thrive where it looks like there is none.
