In rare daytime drone blitz, Russia attacks western Ukrainian city largely spared from war's damage
In normal times, an assault of close to 1,000 Russian drones — many made from Iranian parts and designs — would dominate the news agenda. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky described the attacks as "absolute depravity." At least six people were killed and a number of others injured.

The use of costly, advanced weaponry to defend against attacks by far cheaper drones has been a defining feature of the #war. The incident points to the risks & limitations of this strategy: The blast from the powerful Patriot, whether or not it intercepted a drone, contributed to widespread #damage & #casualties, while #Bahrain air defenses were unable to prevent strikes that night on the nearby #oil refinery, which declared force majeure hours later.
