Thanks to rtve, Spain, for news about how the water used by AI, according to the UN, is a serious concern. Apparently, most of the Carbon emission evaluations are leaving out the water needed to cool, as well as generate, the electric power used by AI centers, and thus underestimating the carbon footprint: “La mayoría de las evaluaciones existentes se centran en las emisiones de carbono asociadas al entrenamiento de modelos complejos. Sin embargo, cada kilovatio-hora de electricidad utilizado para entrenar o ejecutar un sistema de IA también conlleva una huella hídrica, derivada de la refrigeración y la generación de energía, y una huella terrestre, derivada de la infraestructura energética”
