A multifunctional building in #Zurich, overall looking like a boring box. However, some of the precast #concrete #facade panels are shaped like #caryatids! In theory a great idea: using precasting, one could create sculptural, durable and cheap ornamental elements, exactly what I would love to see!
But why like this? Why are there no heads? Why aren't the caryatids carrying anything? Why is there no roof to protect them from rainwater? A missed opportunity. 2000 #architecture #facade

Ahhh, Edinburgh. August. A mobile AirBnB? That’s one way round the regulations……. #edinburghfestival #caryatids

How's this for an impressive doorway? I particularly like the caryatids on the pilasters flanking the door itself as well as the Thomsonesque style roundels above it. The stained glass is pretty good too! In the Hyndland area of Glasgow, it was built in the 1870s.

The platform, sections of the carved harpy-shaped term support, and the framing of the four back panels of the lower part have been replaced, most likely following the original design. Further restorations were made to the upper cabinet, such as major parts of the dentils and the rear caryatid on the left side
