More post-apocalyptic media. Mad Max 2 The Road Warrior. This move came out in 1981 and also, eventually played on regular old TV in the mid 80s.
If you were a kid in the early 80s, you probably did not have cable TV. You also did not get to go the movies. But this movie played on regular TV eventually and it would blow your mind.
The world is in tatters, but the remains still fight over oil. This movie continued a genre of post-apocalyptic wastelands dominated by roving gangs that used modified cars and motorcycles to enforce tenuous power.
The effects are still good because, back then, you had to do practical effects and live action stunts.
This movie is what powered our desire to play Car Wars. Who doesn't want a suped up muscle car, driving through the desert, defeating the bad guys and protecting what glimmer of civilization remains.
Just as aside, back the 80s, we had no idea that Mad Max 1 even existed, we thought the Road Warrior was the first movie.
Speaking of post-apocalyptic games, a good friend of mine loved playing the point and click style adventure games that became popular in the late 80s and 90s. LucasArts made quite a few great games in that period.
One of them was Full Throttle. You play Ben, who has been framed for murder.
Unlike most point and click games, this one had some mini game animation motorcycle combat scenes.
I always thought it was set in some ruined midwest future, bleak and desolate.
It was popular enough that it was remastered in 2017 and is available on steam.

Seemed like, in the 80s, there was a profusion of games that consisted of having a detailed schematic of whatever you were fighting with (spaceship, car, robot) that had boxes for hit locations and damage and other effects.
A friend of mine back then was really into these games and I would play Car Wars, Battletech, Starfleet Battles with him infrequently. I would play D&D way way more than these war games.
For one, it took a long time to play out these battles, and if we did not finish it seems like we forgot what was going on and never got back to it.
I suspect all these games faded in popularity as computer games became more popular because the computer can handle all the meticulous calculations.
