More tablet / card weaving! Shop still in progress - I’ll get back to woodworking soon, I promise.

The purple band is a “nonsense” band. No specific pattern other than when you move “forwards” you produce an M, and “backwards” makes a W. The change between gives you 2-3 dots, depending when you switch. Cotton thread.

More tablet weaving, nearly finished.
Trying out some larger tablets than I usually use. The warp and weft are embroidery thread, which is making a nice smooth and flexible band.

I sewed a stem bag for my bike and I'm really excited about it! It's my first time sewing one and I made up the pattern so I'm pretty delighted with how it came out.

I used bits of a bag I disassembled for parts, some fabric my mom gave me (the green turkey tail mushroom print fabric) and bands I wove.

There are some things I'll do differently next time, like probably making the bottom square instead of a circle, and making some slightly different fabric choices, like not waxing the lining and drawstring sleeve fabric. And maybe I'll add some ease to the pocket, which can't really fit anything when my water bottle is in there on this one. #biketooter #sewing #bandweaving #cardweaving #myog #diy

When I learned about a technique called tablet weaving in 2015, I immediately knew I wanted to use it for guitar straps. 10 years later, I'm still making guitar straps, and I've been lucky enough that almost all the straps I've made have found a guitar for carry.

Weaving bands is something I come back to pretty regularly. Recently it's been in the context of loosely recreating ancient weaving practices like warp weighted weaving.

Here are some card woven bands I've made, I think arranged in the order I made them, with the earliest example on the left and most recent on the right.

I love how card weaving makes elaborate patterning possible while creating a dense and consistent band. It can also be used to weave bands with text, which is what I have on the band loom right now.

I use this process as part of setting up the warp weighted loom, and I also just find bands very useful to have around and fun to make into things or to wrap gifts with.

Also, I'm hoping that adding a caption to an image gives it that as alt-text? If not and someone wants to correct me on this I'd appreciate it, I'd like to be adding alt text to images properly
