⦾ https://artguide.com/news/10594 #BlackGold #JustStopOil #carbonfootprint #museums #artnews #Riyadh

Upcoming #lecture talk at #UVIC.

From #Forests Frayed to Forests Renewed.
April 16, 2026.

Join us April 16, 2026 at the University of Victoria for a thought-provoking talk with keynote speaker Ben Parfitt as he explores, Forests Frayed to Forests Renewed: The Case for Rezoning BC’s Public Lands.

Ben has covered #forestry and natural resource issues in #BritishColumbia since the 1980s both as a journalist and in his previous role as senior public policy analyst with the now-closed Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, BC Office. He is currently a reporter with The Tyee where he covers the forestry and oil and gas industries, among others, and their impacts on critical natural resources like water.

In his talk, Ben will explain the consequences of today’s outdated land use policies and outline how rezoning BC’s public lands can set us on a more desirable course by conserving at-risk primary forests, restore lands scarred by industrialization and support jobs in a refocused, value-oriented forest industry.

Whether you’re an activist, policy maker or someone passionate about environmental preservation this is a talk you won’t want to miss.

seen on fast trains to and from Paris lately: The SNCF drastically undersells the environmental advantage of taking the train. the 3g-to-260g difference is actually much more drastic and thus should also look like it - here 87x difference looks only like 4x. I don’t want to go all Tufte on French rail, but excusez-moi: the illustrations and colors can stay, but accurate representation matters.

PS: the trains were punctual!!

I took a few resolutions years ago to drastically reduce my carbon footprint. Generally, people think the vegetarian diet is the hardest to follow, but the "no plane" resolution is the one that gave me the most trouble 👇🏻 especially when you compare to how easy it is to book a plane ticket online. #CarbonFootprint #EuropeanRail

The Seven Stages of Climate Grief

Actually confronting the reality of climate catastrophe can look a lot like the 7 stages of grief. Let's discuss the 7 stages of climate grief.

unsustainable

It’s #green week at work and comms have put out a thing telling people to delete old emails to save electricity and reduce carbon footprint. I asked for references to back that up. My post got deleted and I was told I was being unprofessional to question it. I work in a highly-ranked research university. SMH. 🤦‍♂️

I cut heater fuel in half! 120L/mo → 61L. My secret? I built a wall to make my office tiny lol. 147kg CO2 saved = 10 trees’ yearly absorption, in just 1 month!

But private jets? 1hr flight wipes out 140 trees' effort. Thousands of trees "die" per trip for just 1 passenger. Insane.

Blog has EN version!

Skwah First Nation powers the community with solar energy
When visitors drive onto Skwah First Nation in Chilliwack, B.C., community energy champion Slade Williams says their mission to shrink its carbon footprint is easily seen — because it's being telegraphed from the rooftops. The band recently finished installing solar panel arrays on its community hall, an administration building and...
