Startups Begin Geoengineering the Sea

These companies are trying to make the oceans a better carbon sink

This year CO2 levels in the atmosphere are on a record level. Now scientists have developed a new material called COF-999, a so-called covalent organic framework, that can capture big amounts of CO2 from the air. It has been successfully tested for 100 adsorption-desorption cycles in the open air, and could be used to fight global warming. See http://www.neat-news.com/2024/10/269.php. #CO2 #carbon_capture

Some 30 to 40 percent of the CO2 greenhouse gas that we produce ends up in the oceans. Now an electrochemical method has been developed that can be used to capturing CO2 from seawater more efficiently than methods for capturing it from the air.
