No More Warnings: Phoenix changes jaywalking policy as pedestrian deaths rise

City leaders are getting tougher on jaywalking, ending warnings and issuing immediate citations while investing millions of dollars to make crossing the streets safer.

The worst drivers are the entitled brats (esp middle-aged ones) who honk as if you were supposed to jump in the ditch as soon as they wanted to use the half of the street on this side of the uncross-able yellow paint. #advisoryBikeLanes #honky #CarSupremacy

Why do we send a just-in-case fire engine to park in the bike lane for a medical emergency that would probably be attended sooner if FD crew arrived via motorcycle / arcimoto? ( ICYMI, the ambulance has filled the driveway) #FossilFuel #transportation #carSupremacy #PolicyFailure

Edit to add the picture where they went past it on the first try and probably had to find some way to turn the rig around twice or was it easier to reverse 1/4mi back?? Compare to any other vehicle. How absurd.

"The #Portland Police Bureau and City Administrator’s office say NW 20th (at Everett) and NW Johnson (at 15th) must be returned to two-way auto traffic so that police officers can more effectively fight crime [without getting out of their cars]." #ACAB #FuckCars #ZeroVision #CarSupremacy https://bikeportland.org/2025/09/02/city-traffic-engineer-resisted-attempts-to-remove-diverters-396518

With dems like these... #ORpol #orDems #CarBrain #CarSupremacy

Car use costs more per mile than drivers pay. The plan is to gradually make drivers pay more, but drivers still won't be paying full price even then. 🙃 No plans to stop the bleeding. And of course #ClimateDenial

Some drivers seem to hold the opinion that it's "disrespectful" for people on bikes to pass their giant empty box of entitlement and thirty other cars. Anecdotally, 100% of these same drivers regularly violate traffic laws in ways that are dangerous. But disrespectful would be like passing someone on a bike immediately before a stop sign then blocking half of the street while waiting to turn left across heavy traffic, which they also do. #carBrain #carSupremacy

2/3rds of people think they're above average in their support of non-car modes of #transportation but the loud minority of car pawns get the news coverage. Pluralistic ignorance: most people think #carSupremacy is the norm and don't realize people who lean toward #BanCars are the majority. #motoNormativity #TheWarOnCars

It will take some effort to overthrow #carSupremacy and its buddy #fascism, a little bit of effort from a lot of people. But it's going to take effort to do anything besides being complacent. Walking / running, doing your errands by e-bike, riding the bus, all increase the amount of casual social interaction that's needed to build democracy. Understanding how your city, county, and state governments and budgets work and how much is wasted on car infrastructure, is eye-opening + impactful.

"Two major highway expansion projects were canceled because of the policy... used the savings to expand an intercity bus service that has soared in popularity... Colorado #transportation department projected up to $40 billion in savings through improved air quality, road safety... studies showing that #transportation ranks 2nd to #housing in consumer costs.

States push to shift road funds to transit and bike projects as Trump threatens cuts

As President Donald Trump's administration seeks to roll back funding for transit, walking and biking projects, some states are trying to advance them on their own. A seven-state group known as the Clean Rides Network gained momentum this year in its advocacy for environmentally friendly transportation projects that it says the federal government has abandoned. Lawmakers in Maryland, Illinois and Massachusetts have introduced proposals this session that would require major highway construction to be offset by other projects that reduce greenhouse emissions. Colorado and Minnesota enacted similar policies in past sessions.
